Attached is the 2013-2014 Program of Studies to start the conversation about what classes you want to take next school year! The Oak Park Counseling Website is a great resource for information, check it out HERE!!! The Sadie Hawkins dance is Saturday, February 2nd from 7:00 – 10:00 pm in the main gym. Dance tickets will be sold January 28th – Feb 1st in the main office. Ticket prices are $8.00 for 1 ticket and $15.00 for two. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door. Also, obligations must be cleared before your student will be allowed to purchase dance tickets. Please ask your student to check the obligation list posted on the bulletin board outside of the main office. Obligations can be cleared with Mrs. Adams in the main office. If you have a question regarding an obligation, please contact Mrs. Adams at 413-5310. Attention Seniors~ Below is a sample of the local scholarships available to you on the OPCounseling Website. Start Applying Now! Education Foundation Scholarships These $1,000 scholarships were established for dependents of North Kansas City Schools employees. At least two are awarded annually to graduating seniors who display exemplary involvement in their schools and communities. Applicants are NOT required to attend North Kansas City Schools. Chris Bartholomew Scholarship A $1,000 scholarship is given in memory of Chris Bartholomew, a 2004 graduate of North Kansas City High School. Applicants must participate in a sport and plan to pursue a degree in criminal justice. Finish Strong Scholarships The Darrel Bland Sertoma Club of North Kansas City provides two $1,000 scholarships to district seniors who demonstrate a critical financial need and a commitment to academics and community service. Janet Stevens Art Education Scholarship This $1,000 scholarship was established in memory of Janet Stevens, who taught art in the district for more than 30 years and also served as visual arts coordinator. Applicants must plan to pursue a degree in art education. Joy H. Browne Music Education Scholarship A $500 scholarship honors the memory of Joy Browne, who served as the district’s elementary music supervisor from 1971 to 1986. Applicants must plan to pursue a degree in music education. R. B. Doolin Scholarships The North Kansas City PTA Council is partnering with the Education Foundation to provide three $500 scholarships at each of the district’s four high schools. Members of the selection committee consider financial need first, followed by a student’s GPA. At North Kansas City High School, two additional $750 Lions Club Scholarships are awarded to R. B.. Doolin applicants. Vicki Baker Scholarships (There is at least one recipient at each district high school.) These scholarships of $2,500 and $1,000 help financially disadvantaged students who have overcome adversity to be successful in school. Applicants must plan to graduate from one of the district’s four high schools. Byron & Nancy Moats Memorial Scholarship (Oak Park) This $500 scholarship honors the memory of Oak Park teacher Byron Moats and his wife, Nancy. It is awarded to a graduate who plans to pursue a degree in Education, Special Education or English. Oak Park Future Teacher Scholarship (Oak Park) Members of the Oak Park faculty present this $1,000 scholarship to a senior who plans to become a teacher. Robert L. Dameron Memorial Scholarship (Oak Park) The family and friends of 1969 Oak Park alum Bob Dameron established this memorial scholarship honoring his will to excel in academics and sports while in school and throughout his life.
